About

YOUR NEXT TAKE STARTS HERE. Clappy turns your iPad into a digital film slate with lens metadata, optional Blackmagic camera integration, timecode and a shot log that follows your production. Built for camera assistants, cinematographers and small crews, it keeps the slate, lens details and record of every take together. SLATE THE SHOT Keep production, roll, scene and take clear in the landscape Field layout. Strong dividers and large shot fields stay readable, while date, shooting day and camera remain at the top right. Choose Standard, Compact or Production Focus, adjust timecode size, colour and theme, switch SYNC/MOS and mark HEAD or TAIL. LENS DATA THAT FOLLOWS THE TAKE Create reusable presets for lens type, iris, focal length and filter. Automatic mode prefers values reported by a connected Blackmagic camera and fills missing fields from your preset; Manual mode uses the preset locally. Every clap stores a lens snapshot with the shot, including its source, and carries it into CSV, JSON and PDF camera-report exports. Focus distance is deliberately ignored because continuously changing AF-C values are not useful in the shot log. BLACKMAGIC. CONNECTED. Enable the optional Blackmagic Camera Integration (beta) to connect one compatible Blackmagic Design camera over Bluetooth. Clappy reads the active Reel, Timecode and supported lens fields, and synchronizes Scene, Take, INT/EXT, DAY/NIGHT, Camera ID, camera operator, director and project name for the next clip. It waits for confirmed metadata and fresh Timecode before arming the next clap. Known cameras can reconnect automatically. Compatibility depends on camera firmware and model. The camera remains in control of Reel and recording: Clappy does not start or stop recording. Lens override is explicit, verifies echoed fields and can be replaced again by an attached electronic lens. Compatibility depends on camera model, firmware and Blackmagic Bluetooth Camera Control; test the complete workflow before shooting. Good Take sync is an optional alpha experiment and is not enabled by default. CLAP. CAPTURE. CONTINUE. Tap the digital clapper to capture timecode and start a take, or use physical clapper detection with a compatible audio input. End the take to advance the number automatically. Circle or flag takes while the details are fresh. TIMECODE FOR YOUR WORKFLOW Follow Blackmagic camera Timecode over Bluetooth, use Time of Day or Free Run, follow incoming LTC, or jam from a valid LTC signal and continue locally. Lock and holdover status, an LTC monitor and frame-rate warnings help with setup. Supported rates span 23.976 to 60 fps, including 29.97 and 59.94 drop frame. A RECORD OF EVERY TAKE Each clap adds a production-specific shot-log entry with slate, lens and timecode data. Add notes, circle preferred takes and flag false takes. Export CSV or JSON for further processing, or a readable PDF camera report. LOCAL BY DESIGN No account, advertising or analytics. Production data stays on your iPad until you export it. Microphone audio is analysed on-device for clapper detection or LTC decoding; Clappy does not record or transmit it. Blackmagic metadata is exchanged locally with the selected camera over Bluetooth. ONE PURCHASE. ALL FEATURES. No subscription. No in-app purchases. Requires iPadOS 17 or later, iPad only, landscape. The app interface is in English. External LTC requires a compatible iPadOS audio input and LTC source. Live LTC and physical clap detection share the audio input. Check timecode rate and camera compatibility before shooting.Read more
