About
112 Ocean Avenue, Long Island, 1974. You have twenty-eight days in a house that does not want you, and the house is paying attention. A house that answers anything you do to it, in prose that reads like a novel. Touch anything in the picture: the lamp, the stain on the boards, the crucifix on the wall. Look at it, take it, break it, burn it. The house writes back. Much of what it says is written the moment somebody first does that thing, so it answers what you actually did, not what somebody guessed you might. 1980s home-computer pixel art, dithered and lamplit, every detail touchable. There is no map. Every way on, a doorway, a hatch, a gap, carries a small arrow on the picture: touch it and you go. THE STORY The last tenant kept a ledger. It does not count nights. Something in this house has been counting for a long time, and you have twenty-eight days to learn what it counts, and who kept the count. - Thirteen rooms, and the rooms other players have opened: when a deed finds a new passage, that room stays in the house for everyone who comes after - Five acts, and a night turns when the story moves, not when a timer runs out - Four endings. Three you choose. One the house chooses for you - Evidence to carry, an axe to take or leave, and a front door you can walk out of whenever you like, if you can live with that - Six languages: English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese - No ads, no account, no purchases. The game saves itself on every turn Made for the phone. The picture fills the top of the screen and the words sit under your thumb. A tap names a thing, and nothing happens until you choose what to do with it. A NOTE ON THE SUBJECT This is fiction, inspired by a case that is a matter of public record. It names no real person and re-enacts nothing that happened to them. It is meant to unsettle. If that is not what you are after, this is the wrong game.Read more
