Take one portrait and the app finds your face, samples your skin, hair and eyes, and uses the whites of your eyes as a neutral reference to cancel out the color of the light you are standing in. That last step is what separates a reading you can trust from one taken under a yellow lamp. Your three measurements are placed on the axes every color system ultimately uses — light to deep, warm to cool, muted to clear — and scored against all twelve seasons. Real people sit between seasons more often than any twelve-box system admits, so you are told when that is happening instead of being handed a false certainty. A NOTE ON ACCURACY Lighting, camera and makeup all move a color reading, which is why Tonvia reports a confidence level rather than a verdict. Daylight and a bare face give the most reliable result.
