About

Walk. Stop. The pinhole camera needs your waiting. Derivografías is an art project by Vivian Galban that shifts the photographic act from capture to experience. It is presented at the 20th International Architecture Biennial of Buenos Aires with Rolf Art gallery (Esmeralda 1353, Retiro). Participants drift through the city carrying pinhole cameras built by the artist: a lensless box with a tiny hole where light enters. With no instant shutter, the image forms by waiting — 15 to 30 seconds in full sun, up to 20 minutes on overcast days. The app accompanies the dérive: • Records your route and the waiting time at every stop. • Meters light with the phone camera and computes how long to wait beside the pinhole camera — tap the subject of your photo to meter that zone. • Photographs where you placed the camera, to later pair it with the developed image. • Draws your cartography of stillness: the grey line of the walk and the orange glow of every wait. • At the end, you can leave a comment and photos of the experience. Stopping and waiting are no longer what comes before the photograph: they are the work. All data is anonymous. The collective walks are projected live in the gallery.Read more
