Dozey Sleep

It is late. Your body is tired. Your mind is not. You are rehearsing a conversation from Tuesday. You are planning a week that has not happened yet. You are working out how many hours are left, which has never once helped anyone fall asleep. Dozey gives that part of you something else to hold. HOW IT FEELS A quiet voice says a word. Candle. A few seconds later, kettle. Then feather. Then anchor. The words have nothing to do with each other, and nothing to do with you. There is no story to follow, nothing to work out, nowhere for a thought to get a grip. So it loosens. And somewhere in the middle of it, without noticing the moment it happened, you are asleep. This is called cognitive shuffling. It is an old idea and a very simple one: a racing mind will not let go of a thread, so you give it a thread that goes nowhere. Dozey does the hard part, which is thinking of the words, so you can lie there and do nothing. WHAT IT ASKS OF YOU Pick a theme. Press begin. Put the phone face down. That is the whole thing. You never look at the screen again, and the screen knows it, so it stays dark. Bright text at bedtime would undo everything the words just did. Set the pace you like. Some people want a word every few seconds. Some want long, slow gaps with the rain filling them in. WHAT IS IN THERE Fifty eight themes to drift through. A cold kitchen. A garden after rain. An attic of forgotten things. A workshop, a coastline, a room in winter. The words in each one belong together the way objects in a room belong together, which is to say not at all, pleasantly. Rain, if you want it. Or forest, ocean, a stream over stones, a fire, far off thunder, or the sound of a room with nobody in it. Fifty seven in all. They can change through the night, so you never wake to the same loop you fell asleep to. Voices made for this. Unhurried, low, the opposite of the flat voice your phone reads directions in. Seven of them, across six languages, with words chosen by people who speak them rather than run through a translator. WHAT IT DOES NOT DO No account. No sign up. No email. Open it and begin. It never listens to you. There is no microphone permission, on purpose. No ads. No tracking. What you set stays on your phone. DOZEY+ Dozey is free, and a good deal of it stays free. Dozey+ opens every theme, the whole ambience library, and finer control over timing and session length. Monthly or yearly, and both start with a week free for new subscribers. It renews automatically at the end of each billing period unless you cancel, and you can cancel any time in Settings. Dozey is a relaxation aid. It is not a medical device and does not diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any medical condition. If sleep is a persistent problem for you, please speak to a healthcare professional.
