About
Most stargazing apps hand you the whole sky and let you work out which part of it matters. Up There keeps it simple. Open it and you get one answer: should you go outside tonight, and what is the one thing worth seeing? You get a verdict — Go, Maybe, or Skip tonight — with a single target, the direction to face, the time to be there, and what you should actually notice when you look. Then you put your phone away. That's the whole idea. ONE ANSWER, NOT A CATALOGUE • One primary target each night, plus a bonus when the sky is generous • A plain-language direction — "look west" — instead of coordinates • Height in fist-widths above the horizon, the way you'd point it out to a friend • An Easy, Moderate, or Challenging label, so you know what you're in for • A time window, so you step outside when it's actually worth it WHAT IT WATCHES The Moon, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn — naked-eye things you can genuinely see from an ordinary backyard in an ordinary town. No telescope required, no deep-sky catalogue to search, no star chart to hold up and align. HONEST ABOUT THE WEATHER Up There checks conditions and tells you whether the sky is clear, uncertain, or poor. When the forecast is out of date or can't be reached, it says so plainly instead of inventing confidence. And "Skip tonight" is a real answer — you'll get it on the nights you deserve to hear it. A GUIDE, NOT A LECTURE Tap through for a short guide: where to start, which way to face, how long to give your eyes to adjust, and one sentence on what makes tonight's target worth the walk outside. It will also tell you why it picked what it picked. A NIGHTLY HABIT, IF YOU WANT ONE Set an optional daily reminder for a time that suits you and it will nudge you to check tonight's brief. It follows you across time zones, and it never implies the weather was refreshed while you slept. DID YOU FIND IT? Mark "I looked up" and "I found it" on tonight's brief to close the loop with yourself. It is kept on your device for the current brief only — there is no observation history, and nothing is uploaded. PRIVATE BY DEFAULT • No account, no sign-up, no cloud sync • Everything is worked out on your device — there is no server of ours to send it to • Your location goes to Apple Weather for the forecast, and nowhere else • No observation history, no tracking, nothing kept about you • Works from a place you set manually if you'd rather not share your device location Up There is free. There's a tip jar in Settings if you want to say thanks; it changes nothing in the app, and there is nothing to unlock. Astronomical positions are calculated on your device. Weather data provided by Apple Weather. Privacy Policy: https://corduroying.com/upthere/privacy-policy/ Go outside. It's better up there.Read more
