About

Build-A-Truck is a building toy for children too young to read. A bare chassis rolls onto the assembly line and stops at every station along the way. Pick a body — digger, monster truck, sedan, trail rig. Wheels or tracks. Off-road tires or racing slicks. Headlights, windows, tinted glass, a grille. At each stop the part appears on the truck straight away, so your child sees what he chose before he commits to it, and tapping a different one simply swaps it out. Nothing moves down the line until he taps the big green check. Then the truck rolls into the paint booth. The whole screen becomes a colour wheel, and once a colour is loaded he paints the truck by dragging a finger across it — the paint appears under his fingertip as he goes. He can change colours as often as he likes without losing what he has already sprayed, so a truck can come out red with blue stripes and stay that way. Every finished truck parks in the garage, where he can look at it again and tap it to spin it round and see the front. WHAT THERE ISN'T • No score, no timer, no levels, and no way to lose • No reading required anywhere in the app • No in-app purchases and no advertising • No accounts, no sign-in, and no personal information collected • No internet connection — it works exactly the same in airplane mode Build-A-Truck was written for one three-and-a-half-year-old by his grandmother, because nothing on the App Store did quite what he wanted. It suits roughly ages two to five.Read more
