About

Little Sounds is an evidence-backed systematic-phonics course: 100 short, easy lessons a parent and child work through side by side. Most lessons take about ten minutes, and each has two sides: a colorful, tappable side for your child, and a clear teaching guide for you. HOW IT WORKS Your child learns the SOUNDS letters make — a hum for "m", a hiss for "s" — not letter names. Tap any letter to hear it. Then they watch a word light up sound by sound, "sound it out" slowly, and "say it fast." Blending sounds into words this way is the core skill systematic-phonics teaching is built around. Every word in the app is checked against the sounds already taught, so no lesson asks a child to read a sound they have not met. The first decodable story appears at lesson 17. FOR THE GROWN-UP You do not need any teaching background. Every lesson includes what to do, exactly what to say, what to watch for, and how long it should take — written fresh for that lesson's sounds. WHAT'S INSIDE • 100 lessons across 6 stages, from first sounds to full stories • Every letter sound, word and story spoken aloud • 47 decodable stories, each with a comprehension question • A progress map of all 100 lessons, a star on each one finished • A teaching guide for every single lesson • Adjustable voice speed PRIVACY No accounts. No sign-in. No ads. No analytics. No third-party SDKs. Your child's progress is saved on your device and never leaves it. Once installed, the app works completely offline.Read more

New: Writing practice. A new Writing page holds every letter the course teaches, in the same handwriting as the lessons. Pick one, trace it with your child, and say its sound together. Nothing is scored. Open it any time from the Menu. Better early lessons. Lessons 7 and 8 have new sentences to read. The word "as" is now taught whole in lesson 8, because sounding it out letter by letter in lesson 2 made it hard to hear. Cleaner reference pages. The Sounds and Flashcards pages are simpler to read.
