Austin Tolls shows you what the toll actually costs before you commit to the lane. The MoPac Express Lane and the 183 North Express Lanes are dynamically priced — the rate climbs as the lane fills, and it can move several times an hour. Every other tolled road in the Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority network runs on a fixed schedule. This app tracks all of it: 65 priced points across 7 roadways, updated continuously. PIN YOUR COMMUTE Put the segment you actually drive at the top of the screen. Open the app and the number you need is the first thing you see — with its by-mail price beside it, and a note on whether it is running above or below normal for this hour. SEE THE WHOLE DAY Every variable segment gets a day chart, midnight to midnight on Austin's clock, drawn against the average of the same weekday over previous weeks. A Thursday is measured against Thursdays, never against the Wednesday beside it — weekday and weekend traffic price nothing alike. Drag across the chart to read any moment of the day. GET TOLD WHEN THE PRICE MOVES Set a rule — under $3.00, over $6.00, or any change at all — and pick which days and which hours it applies to. Rates are checked every two minutes, and you get at most one push an hour per rule, so a lane that keeps crossing your threshold cannot turn into a stream of notifications. WATCH IT FROM THE LOCK SCREEN Start a Live Activity on any segment and the current price sits on your lock screen and in the Dynamic Island, updating as it moves. Useful in the ten minutes before you leave. ON YOUR WRIST The watch app is three pages a swipe apart: your pinned commute with the price at full size, the express-lane signs laid out the way they are posted overhead, and the day chart — scrubbed with the Digital Crown the way a finger scrubs it on the phone. Complications put one segment's price on the watch face, circular, rectangular or corner, so it is there before you raise your wrist. ON YOUR HOME SCREEN Widgets in three sizes. Small and medium carry one route: what it costs and whether that is above or below normal for this hour. Large carries a whole overhead sign — every price from one entry point, and the sign that brings you back. Tap any of them to open that route in the app. ON IPAD A sidebar and a board rather than a phone screen stretched wide. Every express-lane sign is on screen at once, the fixed-rate roads beside them, and the day chart gets the width it has always wanted. THE WHOLE NETWORK ON A MAP Every gantry, priced, with the variable ones marked apart from the fixed ones. Sort by what is nearest you when you are somewhere unfamiliar. TAG AND BY-MAIL PRICING The large number is the rate with a valid TxTag, TollTag or EZ TAG. The smaller figure is what the registered owner is billed when no tag is read — roughly 50% more. NO ACCOUNT, NO TRACKING There is nothing to sign up for. The app does not ask who you are, and it has no advertising and no analytics. Your location is used only to sort the gantry list by distance, on the device and in the one request that sorts it; it is never stored. Austin Tolls is an independent project.
