About

Open Design Lab is an open research space run by the Hyundai and Genesis Future Design team in Seoul. This app gathers the work the lab has done and the questions it is asking now, in one place. What is inside • Philosophy Where the lab explains itself. The four axes we work along, what we are building right now, the record so far, and the questions we are currently putting to ourselves. • Projects Twenty pieces of work, from robotics and mobility to life inside the car, charging infrastructure, public design for the city, and the restoration of damaged nature. Each one carries its background, process and outcome, with the drawings and photographs that came out of it. • News and Awards What the lab has been up to, and the international design awards the work has received, including iF Design Award and Red Dot. • Insight Research published in peer-reviewed journals, read again in our own words. What rearward seating actually costs a passenger, what makes people trust a car with no driver, and the design methods nature already worked out. • Notable research Not only what we make, but what we read. Ten studies in mobility, AI and design, chosen by hand, each with a line on why it is worth your time. Tapping one takes you to the original paper. How it is built Seven languages Korean, English, Japanese, Chinese, German, French and Spanish. Article bodies are translated too; anything without a translation falls back to English. Works in airplane mode The content ships inside the app, so the first screen fills without a network. Anything you have read once stays on the device, images included. Typeset for reading The journal typography of our website, carried over at phone scale. Section headings are numbered, figures carry captions on a rule, and every size follows your accessibility settings. iPhone and iPad On iPad the page is set again for the wider screen. Lists open into two columns, and headings and margins grow with them. Light and dark Follow the system or choose for yourself. Dark mode is not an inverted screen; the colours are defined for it. No ads, no account Nothing to sign up for, no advertising, and no tracking of what you read. Website www.opendesignlab.comRead more
