About
Draw'n'Cut turns a phone photo of a hand-drawn picture into a file a laser cutter can use. Photograph the drawing, or bring one in from your photo library. Tap the figure you want cut out and the app finds its edge. The pen strokes inside become engrave lines and the outline becomes the cut line. Adjust three sliders until it looks right, tap any line to make it a cut instead of an engrave, and export a DXF sized to the width you want. Open that file in your cutter's software and cut. The result is the drawing itself, in wood or acrylic or cardboard: a kid's fish with its own scales scored into the surface, a robot with the buttons still on its chest. WHAT IT DOES WITH A PHOTO The tracing is built for handheld photos of paper, not scans. It copes with uneven light, a dark table under the page, faint pencil, and drawings photographed off a screen. Filled shapes such as eyes trace as the shape that was drawn. A photo that traces to nothing tells you so rather than handing you an empty file. Put a coin on the page before you photograph it and the app measures the drawing, so an export can come out at its real size. THE FILE DXF (R12) with two layers, CUT in red and ENGRAVE in blue, in millimetres. It goes out through the standard share sheet: save to Files, AirDrop to a computer, or send it to yourself. Laser cutter software generally opens DXF directly. WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW Everything runs on the device. There is no account, no sign-in, and no network connection: the photograph and the file never leave the phone. The subject selection uses an on-device segmentation model. A laser cutter is a tool for grown-ups. The app makes the file; a grown-up runs the machine. Questions, or a drawing you cut that you want to show us: hi@kidwiz.aiRead more
