About

Surahi is a strategy board game of hidden movement and forced attack, played on a 37-point star board. You cannot see everything. Your pieces only see along the lines they stand on, and two enemies standing side by side block your view completely. A piece you cannot see, you cannot capture. You also cannot stall. Every turn without a capture drains your strength. Run it down to nothing and you lose, so the board pushes you into contact whether you feel ready or not. Captures chain. One jump can become three if you read the lines correctly. WHERE IT COMES FROM Alquerque is the standard name for the family Surahi belongs to: a medieval game (Alquerque de doce) played on a lined board, where pieces slide along drawn lines and capture by jumping an adjacent enemy to the empty point directly beyond. It is the common ancestor of draughts and checkers, and of Fanorona and several others. What puts Surahi in that family rather than in draughts proper is that the board is a graph of nodes and drawn lines rather than squares, and captures follow the lines in a straight continuation. TEN LEVELS Level 1 plays at random, with full visibility. Level 10 searches deeply and plays under full fog. The levels in between introduce fog gradually, so the difficulty climbs without a wall in the middle - the computer never gets smarter, you simply see less. BUILT TO BE QUIET No account. No sign-up. No adverts. No tracking. No internet connection needed, because the whole game - including the computer opponent - runs on your iPhone. Not sure how it works? Tap the question mark and watch a full recorded game play itself out.Read more
