About

Discover the universe, one day at a time, with Ian’s APOD — an iPhone and iPad companion for NASA’s Astronomy Picture of the Day. See NASA’s latest Astronomy Picture of the Day, complete with its title, date, attribution and explanation. Explore stunning images, animated GIFs and videos, then travel back through more than 30 years of astronomy using the built-in archive. Ian’s APOD makes the APOD archive easy to explore. • Browse backwards and forwards through each day • Search the full APOD archive by title, explanation or attribution • Browse the archive as thumbnails or a detailed list • Jump to a date using the archive calendar • Use “On This Day” to revisit pictures published on today’s date in previous years • Choose “Surprise Me” when you simply want to discover something new • Mark pictures as favourites and keep them available offline • Track which APODs you have already viewed • Build a daily viewing streak • Watch a slideshow of random pictures or your favourites Images can be viewed full screen with pinch-to-zoom, and high-resolution versions are available where provided. Rotate your iPhone to landscape for an immersive full-screen view of images, GIFs and videos. A configurable Home Screen widget can show the latest APOD, the last picture you opened, or a random favourite. An optional daily reminder can also let you know when it is time to discover another corner of the universe. Your viewing history, favourites and other app data can sync privately through iCloud between your iPhone and iPad. Previously viewed pictures and favourites remain available when you are offline, while the searchable archive itself is stored on your device. On iPad, Ian’s APOD includes additional Apple Pencil features. Hover over eligible pictures for a magnified view, or add your own annotations with Apple Pencil and share the result. Ian’s APOD also supports VoiceOver, Dynamic Type and Reduce Motion, and includes an in-app language choice covering English, French, Spanish, Italian, German, Portuguese, Dutch, Korean, Japanese, Simplified Chinese, Turkish and Polish. Whether you want to see today’s picture, rediscover a favourite, search for a particular galaxy or mission, or simply wander through decades of astronomical imagery, Ian’s APOD puts NASA’s remarkable Astronomy Picture of the Day archive at your fingertips. Astronomy Picture of the Day content is provided by NASA and the individual image and media contributors credited with each APOD.Read more
