About
Count back your work and rest hours against the amended HVNL fatigue rules (in force 1 August 2026) and know you're legal before the roadside intercept — buy once, works offline, no subscription. Enter the times you worked. Everything in between counts as rest, which is exactly how the law defines it. In one screen you get a verdict, the rule behind it, and the two times that actually matter: when you must stop, and the minute you are next legal to drive. CHECKED AGAINST THE RULES IN FORCE NOW The tables built into this app are the published standard hours work and rest requirements for solo drivers under the Heavy Vehicle National Law as amended, in force from 1 August 2026 — including the 14-day night rest requirement that changed. Every screen carries the date the rules were last checked, and the Rules tab prints the full table with links to the two published pages it came from. You can see exactly what you are being measured against. EVERY COUNTING PERIOD, ALL AT ONCE • 5½ hours — 5¼ hours work, 15 continuous minutes rest • 8 hours — 7½ hours work, 30 minutes rest in blocks of 15 continuous minutes • 11 hours — 10 hours work, 60 minutes rest in blocks of 15 continuous minutes • 24 hours — 12 hours work, 7 continuous hours stationary rest • 7 days — 72 hours work, 24 continuous hours stationary rest • 14 days — 144 hours work, 4 night rest breaks with 2 on consecutive days COUNTED THE WAY THE LAW COUNTS Periods under 24 hours are counted forward from the end of any rest break. Periods of 24 hours and longer are counted forward from the end of the longest major rest break the period requires. And a later major rest break does not restart a period that is still running — so this app checks every period that is open at the same time, not just the most recent one. That is the difference between a real count-back and a running total. THE ROLLING 14 DAYS, HANDLED Alongside the official counting periods you get count-back totals measured straight back from right now, over 24 hours, 7 days and the full 14 days. No guessing where your fortnight started. WHAT YOU'D BREACH, AND WHEN YOU'RE NEXT LEGAL A breach names the rule, the period it happened in, and by how much. A clean check gives you a countdown to the moment your work time runs out. Either way you get "next legal to drive at HH:MM" — worked out by testing every rule forward, not estimated. ON DUTY, LIVE Tap start and the app keeps the clock. A full-screen counter shows how long you have left and which rule will stop you. It survives being backgrounded, losing signal, or the phone restarting, because your shift is saved on the phone the moment it begins. WRITTEN OR ELECTRONIC DIARY Switch between written-work-diary counting, where work rounds up and rest rounds down to 15-minute blocks, and to-the-minute counting for an electronic diary. Night rest breaks are measured against 10pm to 8am in the time zone of your base, not wherever you happen to be parked. BUILT FOR THE CAB • One price, everything included — no subscription, no trial, no in-app purchases, no ads • Completely offline. No account, no sign-up, no data leaves your phone • Nothing to lose: every entry saves itself the moment you make it • Big, high-contrast type that reads at arm's length, day or night Work Diary is an independent guidance tool, not legal advice. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator, and it is not an approved Electronic Work Diary — it does not replace your work diary or any record you are required to keep. Every answer depends on what you enter. Fatigue rules change, and being inside your work and rest limits does not by itself make you fit to drive. Always confirm the current requirements with the NHVR and your operator, and stop if you are impaired by fatigue.Read more
