Kalinio is an assistive communication app (AAC – Augmentative and Alternative Communication) for people who are unable to speak or can only speak to a limited extent due to a neurological condition or injury. The app allows users to select letters, numbers, words and help requests using different input methods: • Mouse click or external switches • Tongue click • Mouth opening detected by the device camera • Sticking out the tongue, also detected by the device camera The selected content is then spoken aloud. Kalinio is particularly suitable for people with: • Stroke • Dysarthria • Apraxia of speech • Severe swallowing disorders (e.g. with a tracheostomy) • Other neurological conditions involving severely impaired speech together with limited hand function A prerequisite is that cognitive abilities and the ability to write or spell are preserved. Eligible new subscribers can use all features described here during a two-week free trial. After the trial, a paid auto-renewing monthly or annual subscription is required to continue using Kalinio.
