About
Blind and Visually Impaired Tagging System (BVITS) comprises the five functional components of: Blind and Visually Impaired (BVI) Sports Targeting System (BVISTS) BVI Environment Tagging System (BVIETS) BVI Scavenger hunt system Mystery booth Conference Exhibit Booth Visit Incentivizing System (CEBVIS) Optical Tripwire Personal Alarm (OTWPA) BVISTS Used in conjunction with special targets downloaded from this app or from our website at: https://dxdtengineering.com/BVITS BVISTS supports the sports of cornhole, archery, and air gun marksmanship. In each case the iPhone will scan for and find - when within range- targets that feature our machine- readable codes. Check our website for downloads and links to providers of iPhone mounts for archery bows and air guns. When in GAME mode the phone will scan for targets and issue verbal and audio cues when the target is centered in the iPhone display. It can also return the distance to the target. The cornhole target is elongated to account for the oblique angle of target relative to the cornhole player. Areas where the targets are expected to be should be scanned slowly. Wearable and waterproof targets support watergun fun! WARNING: The BVIST system will not warn users when aimable sport and game systems are pointed in unsafe directions. Use extreme care. BVIETS In DIRECTIONS mode the BVIET system will scan an area to look for pre-deployed BVIETS environment tags. A catalog of these tags is downloadable from the app or from the website: https://dxdtengineering.com/BVITS The tags are grouped by objective (i.e. key, general locations in a hotel or conference center). Each BVIETS tag references an objective and a basic general mobility instruction like “forward” or “turn right”. With sufficient planning a system of tags ca n help BVI individuals navigate with confidence and efficiency while within a hotel or conference center. The target acquisition range for an 8” target is about 30 ft. Targets should be elevated and placed in key traffic areas so they can be found easily by scanning and will be less likely to be blocked by passersby. The iPhone will read the prompts associated with any of the BVIETS tags it finds within its range and field of view. The user should scan areas slowly and more than once to reduce the likelihood of missing a tag. Scavenger Hunt DIRECTIONS mode also supports a scavenger hunt game. 3 “prize targets” are provided on our website and in the catalog of BVIETS targets. Any number of the 3 targets can be grouped together such that when they are found using the iPhone, one target can be ripped down to be returned to the game administrator for a prize. Mystery Booth Conference Exhibit Booth Visit Incentivizing System The app supports a function where if any of three special “Mystery Location” tags are scanned the app will remember the day and time when the tag was scanned for up to 4 days. The way this feature is used is that prior to a conference, the conference administrator identifies three willing exhibitors to host one each of the three mystery tags. The three exhibitors are instructed not to volunteer the tags but to make the tag available for scanning by those attendees that ask for it. The attendees are encouraged to ask for a mystery tag at every booth they visit. Once they capture the three mystery tags they should bring their phone to the conference administrator to be entered into a raffle or other consideration. Optical Tripwire Personal Alarm (OTWPA) The BVITS system includes a setting where the iOS host device will alarm when its view of a tag is interrupted. This feature can be used to sound an alarm when someone enters through a door or passageway bounded by the iOS device camera and any readable tag from our catalog. In this way, an “optical tripwire alarm” is formed. Using multiple iOS devices, the same function can be used to bound areas with an “invisible thread” that can be useful in mobility training exercises and challenges.Read more
