About
Lyefl is a place to write your life down. A page a day, in your own words, with a daily almanac to write from. Nothing here is keeping score: no streaks, no ranks, no red badges. THE CANVAS One full-screen writing surface. Bold, italic, underline, strikethrough, code and five marker inks, set on the words themselves, no syntax to look at. Headings, pull quotes, bulleted and numbered lists, twelve printers' ornaments for a scene break. Give a phrase a voice (Hushed, Aching, Still, Swelling, Roaring, Inscribed), a weather (snow, ash, embers) or a texture (stone, frost, iron, glass). The finished page keeps them. Choose the entry's typeface, size and leading. Add photographs if you have them; a page never needs one. A cutline is printed under a picture; a description is read to a reader who cannot see it. Point at your own pages and series from inside the prose, or set in a passage you kept. An entry is a book of up to twenty pages, turned with a chevron or a flick. Notes to yourself go in the margin, marked NOT FINISHED or A NOTE. Every keystroke is written to disk. Keep prints the page as a reader will meet it, then asks what a journal keeps: the cover, where it was, how it felt, who may read it. THE ALMANAC A daily edition, set as a front page. Seven gifts a day — a colour, an artist, a composer, a photographer, a book, a painting, a piece of writing — each a real work with its story. Then the rest of the day: national days, the season, the night sky, the weather. Every item offers Write from this, and the page remembers it. Keep a gift and it outlives the day. Read back a fortnight of editions, walk the year month by month, browse by country. READING A page arrives as its writer set it: their face, their marks, their ornaments. Read it in your own hand instead, without moving a word. Size, spacing, a focus window of three to five lines, a ragged or justified edge, eight faces. Those choices stay on this phone; the writer is never told. Turn pages by dragging the leaf. Open a photograph on its own. Leave a thought at the foot, or write to the author with the page quoted. WHAT YOU KEEP Hold a paragraph, drag the handles to the exact words, add a note, keep it. The passage is underlined in pencil where it sits and lands in your Commonplace, filed under the page it came from, searchable with your notes. Nobody is told what you keep. SERIES AND SHELVES Two pages that belong together become a series: continue the one you are reading, gather pages you wrote, or bind one as you write. Name it, give it a standfirst, a cover and a colour, arrange its pages, bring one in, take one out, dissolve it — nothing is deleted. Stand other people's works on shelves you name. The Library remembers where you left off; that place never leaves the phone. THE DESK The bench the book gets made on, the one place showing what is still open: pages you stopped on, sentences you marked unfinished, series forming, works you continue. THE ENVELOPE Letters, one to one, at the full measure of the page. Words only: no photographs, no links. Decide who may write to you: people you follow, anyone, or no one. A letter can be taken back before it is read; a correspondence can be archived or muted. YOUR JOURNAL A cover, a portrait, a handle, a few lines about yourself. Your pages read down the spine by date, with the quiet days said out loud. Choose who can read you, whether follows need approval, and whether readers see where you wrote it. PRIVACY AND SAFETY Restrict someone, hide your pages from them, or block them, wherever their words appear. None of it is announced, and block says what it ends before you press it. Report a page, a thought, a letter or a person. Sign out, deactivate and come back to it as you left it, or delete the account in the app. OFFLINE What you have read is kept on the phone, so your pages, your Desk and your notes are there with no signal. Changes land under your thumb and are sent later. Sign in with Apple or Google.Read more
