MOSS Studio is a brand-new magical sketchpad for iPhone and iPad. It reinvents the creative sketchpad with custom brushes, a fully simulated canvas, and a rich “challenge pad” system to inspire seasoned pros and curious dabblers alike. Watch your brushstrokes interact with each other, pull colors from your favorite photos, and share final drawings or process videos with ease. In MOSS, every brush is a tiny computer program, so it can do all the things computers can do: Think fluid dynamics, particles, growth, flocking, cellular sims, and even sound synthesis. This means you can make brushes that do more than just paint. They can act as filters, manipulators, or devices of emergent discovery. Brushes read pen tilt, speed, pressure, the paint already down, audio, and each other. This isn’t your typical drawing app! MOSS canvases have true texture and height, which means it comes standard with impasto painting, wet paint, and paper grain that will catch and redirect inks. These too can be manipulated, combined, and layered to create gorgeous texture. You can (and should!) make your own novel brushes by combining “blocks,” in an intuitive brush builder. Each block provides its own special behavior: A drip block will seep ink down the canvas, the Boombox block allows you to record a sound and play it on every dab. MOSS’s Symmetry block will explode your cursor in as many simultaneous directions as you want, and the Pixel block will de-res to your taste. Blocks are aware of each other and will combine their abilities in unexpected and delightful ways. You can gate behavior to certain brush speeds, pressure, drag time, and even the color of the canvas underneath.
