About

Where is the nearest shelter? The whole Swedish register is in the app: 63,398 shelters, seven languages, no connection needed. Independent app, not a government agency. Official information: SE-Alert, Sveriges Radio P4, krisinformation.se and 113 13. Emergency: call 112. SEVEN LANGUAGES, CHOSEN FIRST Svenska · English · العربية · Soomaali · فارسی · ትግርኛ · Українська You pick your language first. No Swedish start screen to get past. The language changes the whole app. WORKS WITH NO INTERNET The shelter register is built into the app. The search runs on your phone. It still works during a power cut, on a congested mobile network, or with no data left. NO ACCOUNTS, NO TRACKING Your location is used on the phone to calculate distance and show you on the map. The search does not send your location. A downloaded map works with no internet. The online map fetches tiles for the area on screen from our Swedish server, which sees that area but does not store it. No accounts, no sign-in, no tracking, no ads. MAP AND COMPASS The shelters on an OpenStreetMap map. Download the map of your municipality and up to five more, and it works with no internet. The compass shows direction and straight-line distance to the shelter, even offline. For a walking route the app opens Google Maps or another maps app, after telling you what that app then learns. YOUR PLACES See the shelters in up to five towns or municipalities you choose: near home, in case the shelters where you are fill up, or where you often travel. The app does not use your location for this. YOUR MUNICIPALITY Choose your municipality and see how many shelters and places it has. A municipality that uses Hitta skydd can publish its own information for its residents. It is kept on your phone and can be read with no internet. THREE ANSWERS, NOT ONE Close: the shelter with its address, number of places and distance. Far away: you probably would not reach it in time. Choose the best cover near you instead. None at all: large parts of rural Sweden have no registered shelter within walking distance. That is information you need, not a bug. THE ADVICE DEPENDS ON THE HAZARD Air raid: go down, preferably to a shelter. Toxic gas or smoke outdoors: go inside and close windows, doors and ventilation. Flood: go up. Radioactive fallout: go inside, as deep down in the building as possible. If the shelter is far away or there is none, the app asks which hazard applies and gives the advice for it. If the authorities give other instructions, for example in a VMA (Important Public Announcement), follow them. TWO THINGS MANY PEOPLE DO NOT KNOW The shelters are locked today. They are not open in peacetime. The property owner has 48 hours to prepare them after a heightened state of alert is declared. Many are storage or bike rooms right now. Shelters are open to everyone. Regardless of citizenship, residence permit, or which building you live in. You do not need papers, and you do not need to live in the building. SOURCE AND LIMITS Shelter data: open data from MCF (Myndigheten för civilt försvar), the Swedish civil defence agency. The fetch date and record count are shown in the app, and you can check a shelter on MCF's shelter map at mcf.se. Map data © OpenStreetMap contributors, ODbL (openstreetmap.org/copyright). The readiness label is our reading of Swedish law, not a field in the source data. MCF does not guarantee that the coordinates are correct. A shelter may have been rebuilt or had its status changed before the register caught up. THIS IS NOT AN ALERT SYSTEM The app does not replace VMA and will not warn you. In a real emergency the warning comes via SE-Alert directly on your phone, Sveriges Radio P4 and krisinformation.se. The app exists for what you need to know before the alert: where to go, what applies where you live, and what to do when there is no time to get anywhere. This app is not published by, reviewed by, or affiliated with any Swedish government agency.Read more
