Arendal Singletrack

Arendal Singletrack is the app for the cycling club of the same name. It does two things, and both are equally important: it shows the club's trails, and it keeps track of the volunteer work that makes the trails exist. ON A TRIP • The club's proposed hikes drawn on the Norwegian Mapping Authority's hiking map • Length, elevation and difficulty level for each hike • Follow the hike with GPS. The app notifies you with a vibration if you go off the route, so you don't have to have your phone on your handlebars • Steepness maps from NVE, property boundaries and aerial photos as separate map layers • Download map sections for use where there is no coverage DUGNAD A fallen tree, a washed-out bend, a trail that is growing back. Report it where you are, with a photo and position. The club turns the reports into work lists, members take a case, improve it and document the result. • Report damage with a photo and location • See what has been reported, who has taken what, and what remains • Document the work when it is done, so the club knows what has been done on the trail network over time WITHOUT COVERAGE In general, there is good mobile coverage in the trail network around Arendal, but it can still be limited at times. Therefore, everything is saved on the phone first and sent when you are back in coverage. You can report a damage in the middle of the forest without losing anything. FOR WHOM Maps and trip suggestions are open to everyone. The volunteer section is for club members and requires someone on the board to approve you. The app is in Norwegian and English. WHAT THE APP DOES NOT DO No best scores, no segments, no sharing of position between members. The trails cannot tolerate people chasing time on them, and your trip is your own. Map data © Kartverket.
