About
Sandglass is a calm timer for the things you spend your day on. Tap a task and it starts. Tap Stop and it ends. Today sits under your thumb: every entry, in order, by the minute. No project code, no client, no timesheet. TODAY A grid of your tasks. Tap one and a small sheet asks what you meant: start it now, start it from a time you pick, or add a block that has already finished. Hold a tile to start it straight away. Tap the running task to stop it, to stop it at an earlier time, or to move when it started. Under the grid is the day itself, entry by entry. Open any day and it reads like a diary that wrote itself. Forgot to stop at lunch, or to start at all? Add a block by hand, trim one, delete one. If your day does not begin at midnight, say when it does. YOUR OWN TASKS, AND SLEEP Work, Study, Exercise, TV, Side project and Sleep are there from the first run. Rename them, add your own, choose a colour and a glyph, archive the ones you do not use. Sleep is a task like any other, and it is the one nobody thinks to log. Start it at bedtime and stop it at breakfast: an entry that runs past midnight is filed under the night it began. HISTORY, AT THREE ZOOMS Week, Month and Year, drawn the same way at every zoom, each task in its own colour. Tap a month to open its weeks, tap a week to open its days, tap a day to open the day. Every range gives its total, the share each task took, and an average a day. HOURS, IF YOU HAVE SET HOURS Off by default. Leave it off and Sandglass is simply the timer. Turn it on, fill in My standard week, and it answers the question you ask yourself at four in the afternoon: can I knock off yet? While the work is running it names the time. Otherwise it says how much is left. It keeps a running credit against your week that never resets, so the hours you are owed stop being a guess. A public holiday, leave or a sick day is painted onto a calendar and stops the day asking anything of you, and a day in lieu spends the credit instead. Adjustments are dated, for hours settled somewhere else. Your unpaid break comes off the day, and any day can say something different. With Hours on, History adds Hours in credit: where your balance has been across the window, and the change over it in one sentence. THE WIDGET A home screen widget with the running task, its clock, and a Start and Stop pill, so a task can be started or stopped without opening the app. With Hours on it also carries the day's hours and your credit as of yesterday. After a restart the widget can show a stale time for a moment, until Sandglass repaints it. THE LOOK A dark ground and one warm amber. Three accents (Amber, Clay, Mist) and two grounds (Dark, and Midnight for OLED screens). The running time can tick with seconds, or sit still to the minute. No red anywhere. A long day is a fact, not a fault, and nothing here tells you off about yours. SANDGLASS NEVER RINGS Sandglass never rings and never notifies. When you reach your hours it repaints its own widget, which can happen a few minutes later. It makes no sound and there is nothing to dismiss. FREE, ALL OF IT No ads. No accounts. No subscriptions. Sandglass is free and there is no paid tier: every task, every chart, the whole of your history and the widget, for everyone. Nothing is held back and nothing is counted against a limit. Everything ships inside the app, Sandglass works offline, and your record is kept by the app itself. EARLY ACCESS Sandglass is in Early Access on Google Play. The app is complete and in daily use, and it is still being shaped, so if something is wrong or missing, write to sandglass@zone7studios.com.
