About

F+R NSW turns the job on the station printout into somewhere you can drive to. Point the camera at the turnout sheet as it comes off the printer. F+R NSW reads three things off it: • the job address • the Map Ref coordinates • the incident number Then it gives you two big green targets you can hit with a thumb on the way to the truck: navigate to the address, or navigate to the exact coordinates. The two are offered separately, because they do not always agree and you are the one who knows which to trust. The screen in the truck reads as well — the address and the incident number. That screen does not show a Map Ref, so there are no coordinates to take from it. IT REFUSES RATHER THAN GUESSES The printout prints the Map Ref longitude first. F+R NSW works out which number is which from the values, not the order, so the pair always comes back the way a maps app expects. A pair is only accepted when both numbers are complete, carry a decimal point, and land inside Australia. A digit the camera misread, or half a number outside the frame, is thrown away — the scanner simply keeps looking. A confidently wrong destination is far worse than an empty field. If an address block runs longer than it should, the app says so in amber and asks you to check it before you drive off. It never quietly hands you half an address. BUILT FOR THE ENGINE BAY Fields lock in one at a time, so the whole sheet never has to be readable in a single frame: the address can land on one frame and the coordinates on the next. If a read has the address but not the coordinates, or the other way round, "Scan again to add" picks up the missing half without losing what you already have — and ignores a sheet that carries a different incident number. The job stays on the phone for 12 hours, so it is still there when you come back from the maps app. Forget it sooner with one tap. WHEN THE CAMERA WILL NOT PLAY Type it in. The coordinate field takes the pair in either order, shows you what it will use before you commit, and warns about a missing minus sign. FIRE COMS — RADIO QUICK REFERENCE One tap from the main screen: the radio priority colour codes, the status codes, the CAN report and the PAR, laid out to be read at a glance. SETTINGS • Directions in Google Maps or Apple Maps, routed from where you are now • Light, dark, or follow the phone • What's new, with the full version history PRIVACY Everything happens on your device. Text recognition runs on the phone. There is no server, no account, no sign-in, no analytics and no advertising — the app makes no network requests at all. The last job is kept on the phone for 12 hours, then forgotten; it is not backed up and it is not sent anywhere. No photo or video is recorded. INDEPENDENT APP F+R NSW is an independent app. It is not produced, endorsed or supported by Fire and Rescue NSW. F+R NSW is a reading aid. It transcribes what is on a printout or a screen; it does not verify it. Always confirm an address or a location against the source before acting on it, and follow your own procedures on the radio.Read more
