Cryptogram: Quotes from Books

A cryptogram is a sentence with every letter swapped for another. This one takes its sentences from books: Austen, Doyle, Thoreau, Chesterton, Burnett, Brontë, Dickens, Emerson, Jerome, Alcott, Montgomery and more, credited by author and work once you have solved them. No song lyrics, no scripture, no words nobody has heard of: every sentence is made of common English words and was filtered by machine for that before it was allowed in. Every puzzle is proved before it ships. A solver that never sees the sentence reads the cipher from the shapes of the words alone and has to find exactly one English reading, and has to reach it by reasoning rather than by trying things. Puzzles that need a guess are refused, not graded. So when you are stuck, there is always a next step, and the hint tells you what it is and why: "only one English word has this shape with your letters", "the words that share this letter allow only one". A hint fills one letter and explains itself; it never hands you the answer. A wrong letter is named, not punished. Check the board and the game points at the word your letters left unreadable and says which of them is wrong.
