Bill of Health: Medical Bills

Your hospital's statement and your insurer's Explanation of Benefits are about the same visit, and they rarely say the same number. Bill of Health puts them side by side and points at the page every figure came from. Neither document was written to be read beside the other. That is the part this app does. WHAT IT DOES • Reads an itemized hospital statement and an insurance EOB — from a PDF you downloaded, a photo of the paper that came in the post, or a document shared straight from Mail. • Shows what the provider is asking for and what the insurer says your share is, next to each other, and what the difference between them comes to. • Accounts for that difference where it can: a second visit on the same statement, a balance carried forward from last time, charges the insurer has not adjudicated yet. A gap is not the same thing as a mistake. Where your documents explain one, the app says so. • Points at the page. Tap any figure and see it highlighted on the document it was read from, so nothing is a number you have to take on faith. • Explains what a charge is. Tap a line to see what family of care its procedure code belongs to, and whether the same line appears more than once. • Gives you the questions worth asking, drawn from what your own documents say — and a PDF packet you can print or hand to a billing office, with both pages and the figures marked. • Copies those questions as text, headed with the provider, dates and claim number, ready to paste into a patient-portal message or keep in front of you on the call. • Keeps each visit as its own case, named however you like — useful if you look after a parent's or a child's paperwork as well as your own. WHAT IT DOES NOT DO Bill of Health does not tell you whether a bill is right or wrong. It is a reader and a reconciler, not a judge. It will show you that two documents disagree, and where, and what might account for it — the rest is a conversation with your provider or your insurer, and this app is built to help you have it rather than to have it for you. It gives no medical, legal, or financial advice. YOUR DOCUMENTS STAY ON YOUR IPHONE Everything is read on the device. There is no account, no sign-in, no insurer login, and no server: the app makes no network request while reading your documents at all, and a test in the build enforces that.
