Tally: Personal Budget

Tally is a budget you keep by hand. Plan the month, write down what you spend, and give every dollar a job. Planned income minus everything you have assigned should come to exactly $0.00. That figure sits at the top of the Budget screen, and the whole app is pointed at getting it there. BUILT FOR TWO One budget, shared with one other person through iCloud. Both of you see it change, and the app says who entered what. No account to create, no password to share. ENTERED BY HAND, ON PURPOSE There is no bank connection and none is planned. Typing a purchase in takes ten seconds and is the moment you actually notice it — which is the point of a budget, and the thing an automatic feed quietly takes away. FAST TO ENTER A keypad opens on the amount, because the amount is the thing you always know. The category you are about to choose shows what is left in it before you commit, so you find out whether a purchase fits while you can still do something about it. Shops you have used before come back with their usual amount and their usual category in a single tap. Point the camera at a receipt and Tally reads the total, the date and the shop. That happens on your device, and the photo is not stored or sent anywhere. One purchase that covers several categories can be split. You set the total and the parts are made to add up to it, so a split never invents money or loses any. SEE WHERE THE MONTH IS GOING A pace chart draws what you have actually spent against an even burn of the plan, so being ahead of the month is something you can see rather than something you work out. Categories close to their limit are called out while there is still time to change course, and the ones already over are named with the figure. Six and twelve month trends show income against spending, which categories moved most against your own recent average, and any single category over time. Tap any point to read the number. GET OUT OF DEBT List what you owe and Tally puts a date on being clear of it. Order the payoff by snowball or by avalanche, and see how much sooner an extra amount each month would get you there. RECURRING, WITHOUT SURPRISES Rent, paychecks and subscriptions are set up once. Tally tells you what is due and waiting; posting it is a tap. Nothing is ever written into your budget that you did not confirm — not on a schedule, not in the background, not ever. WHAT ELSE IS IN IT • Categories that belong to a month, so editing September never rewrites August • Home Screen widgets for what you have spent and what is still unassigned • Add a transaction by asking Siri, or from the Shortcuts app • An optional Face ID, Touch ID or passcode lock in front of the budget • Notifications that name a figure and a category, and never repeat themselves • Tags, notes, search, and a running ledger of everything you have entered • Light and dark, and six accent colours to pick from ON YOUR IPHONE AND YOUR MAC One purchase covers both. The Mac version is a real Mac app — multiple windows, a full menu bar and keyboard shortcuts, and entry you can complete without touching the mouse — rather than a phone screen in a box. YOUR MONEY STAYS YOURS Nothing is collected. Your budget lives on your device and, if you turn on iCloud, in your own iCloud account. There is no server, no analytics, no advertising, and no third-party code of any kind. The developer cannot see your budget and has no way to ask for it. IMPORT AND EXPORT Bring a budget in from a JSON or CSV file, and take a full copy out whenever you want. It is your data and it should be portable.
