Seafarer Contract Check: MLC

The worst place to read a seafarer employment agreement is the manning agency desk, ten minutes before you leave for the airport, pen already in hand. This app exists for the moment before that. WHAT THE CHECK READS * Basic wage, compared against the ILO minimum for an able seafarer: USD 690 per month from January 1, 2026 * Hours of rest: at least 10 hours in any 24-hour period and 77 hours in any 7-day period under MLC Standard A2.3 * Repatriation: the flight home is the shipowner's cost under Standard A2.5 * Medical care: sickness and injury cover under MLC Regulation 4.2 * Paid leave, overtime, notice periods, recruitment fees, and whether a collective agreement covers you Whether your document is called a seafarer employment agreement, a seaman contract, or a cruise ship crew contract: run it through the check before you sign on. The report reads the salary clauses and compares the basic wage to the ILO floor, and it flags a contract duration that quietly stretches past the point where MLC 2006 gives you the right to go home. Next to the flag you see how that register performs in port state control: Paris MoU white, grey or black list with its rank, Tokyo MoU list, and whether the ITF lists the flag as a flag of convenience. Ratings follow the current published lists (Paris MoU 2025, Tokyo MoU 2024, ITF 2025).
