Antiphon: Deep Conversations

A conversation is not a question. It is an arc. Every deck of conversation cards has the same problem: the cards have nothing to do with each other. You draw a shallow one, then a devastating one, then a shallow one. There is no shape, and a conversation without a shape does not go anywhere. Antiphon does not deal cards. It builds the shape. WHAT IT ACTUALLY DOES Tell it who is at the table — how many of you, how well you know each other, how long you have, how loud the room is, and whether you are sitting, standing or walking. It then composes an arc of moves: • It opens with something concrete and cheap. Nobody is exposed in the first minute. • It warms up in small steps. • It turns once — a single jump into something that matters. Once, not five times: five is an interrogation. • It goes as deep as your table can go, and no deeper. Strangers get a ceiling. Old friends do not. • And it LANDS. The last move is always easier than the deepest one. A conversation that ends at its peak leaves everyone exposed. No other app in this category does this. IT KNOWS WHO IS THERE Six people answering one question in turn takes four minutes, and the last two stopped listening. So above six, Antiphon splits you into pairs — pairs run in parallel, which is why they are the answer for a large table. Everyone gets a turn: not "usually", measured. Deep moments go to pairs or to one person, never around the table. Being asked, in turn, in front of eight people, what you have forgiven yourself for is exactly how an evening freezes. BRING YOUR OWN MATERIAL A word, a photo from your phone, or whatever is playing. The arc is built from it. All of it is processed on your device — the photo is read by Apple's Vision framework and never leaves, the music is measured for tempo and brightness and never recognised, never recorded, never stored. NO ACCOUNT. NO SERVER. NO INTERNET. There is nothing to sign up for, nothing that syncs, and nothing that is kept. When the evening is over, the app remembers none of it. That is the point, not a limitation. ON YOUR WATCH The phone sits in the middle of the table; the watch shows the host where the arc is and taps your wrist when it is time to move on.
