A jazz trio is playing in a small room on your phone. Nobody recorded it: every note is written the moment it is played. Leave it on while you work, or fall asleep to it. Never the same night. Always the same room. EVERY NIGHT IS A DIFFERENT NIGHT The room keeps time by the clock: tonight's sets tonight, different ones tomorrow. Some nights one line at the top tells you what is up: rain outside, the owner is in, a new bass player who cannot quite keep up yet. The band plays accordingly. THE PEOPLE HERE Nine players, each with things they never do: one never picks up the brushes, one never plays a block chord, one never shows off. Every room also has an owner, a house rule, a regular in the corner and a bit of history. THIS ROOM HAS AN ACCENT, AND IT IS ONLY YOURS The chords it reaches for, how it ends a phrase, how often the brushes come out. The bones stay; over the weeks, the band picks up a few new habits. TWO KINDS OF ROOM Intimate, with an upright piano and players who hold back; or showier, with a grand piano and players with something to prove. Yours starts as the second; regulars choose. VISIT A FRIEND'S ROOM Type in a friend's room number and spend the evening there, hearing the sets they hear tonight. Your own room stays untouched. LISTEN TOGETHER On a FaceTime call, start SharePlay: same room, same tune, at the same moment. Only with the people on your call. No account, no server. THERE IS A WINDOW Behind the band, a window onto the street: headlights in the rain, snow on some nights, a cinema's red sign across the road. It brightens when the trio opens up. THEY KEEP PLAYERS' HOURS A set runs about forty-five minutes, then they step away. The quiet between sets is real, and it is meant to be there. CLOSING TIME Tell them when to close: after this set, in half an hour, in two hours. The last set gets quieter tune by tune and ends on the house song, the same every night. Nothing ever fades out. ON YOUR LOCK SCREEN The room's name as a neon sign over tonight's window; on iOS 26 and later it moves: rain falling, neon breathing, headlights passing. With a closing time set, the Lock Screen and the Dynamic Island show who is playing and when the room closes, with a button to stay open. WITHOUT OPENING THE APP A Control Center switch for the room and a "last call in 30 min" button. Widgets that play and pause. Ask Siri to set a closing time, or let a Focus such as Sleep set it for you. iPhone and iPad. WRITTEN HERE, AS IT IS PLAYED No library of songs, no recordings, no neural model, no training data: a rule-based music-theory engine improvising on this device. No account, nothing collected. It plays on a plane, in a basement. A ROOM, NOT A PLAYLIST No progress bar, no track list, no skip button. You cannot ask a piano player for the next song. The first seven nights are on the house: the whole room, nothing held back. After that there is still a free early set every night, about 23 minutes, ending on the house song. Regulars run a tab — by the year or by the month — or keep a seat with a single payment, and the band plays all night. SUBSCRIPTION DETAILS Run a tab — auto-renewing subscription, yearly US$29.99 or monthly US$4.99. Or keep a seat for a one-time US$99, which never renews. A subscription renews automatically unless it is cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period; the account is charged for renewal within 24 hours before the period ends.
