Multa Cero: Spanish fines

A Spanish traffic fine does not cost what the paper says. It costs what you pay, the licence points it takes, and the doors that close when you choose. Multa Cero puts all three in front of you. PAY OR APPEAL, WITH NUMBERS Paying early costs half (art. 94 of the Spanish traffic law). Appealing risks the whole amount. The break-even sits at exactly 50 %, and it does not depend on the sum. And the part almost nobody tells you: early payment does NOT give your points back, because paying makes the penalty final that same day. Multa Cero works out how many extra euros each point you keep is costing you, and you decide whether a point is worth that. YOUR POINTS RECORD You store your balance — 12 points, or 8 if your licence is under three years old — and the app tells you how many this fine takes with the cap of eight in one day, the exact date you get them back (two years for any severity; the three-year figure many guides still quote was repealed in 2022), when you can take the course that returns six points, and how many fines like this you are from losing your licence. Your balance stays on your device, with the date the figure is from. THE AMOUNT, CHECKED AGAINST THE LAW Spanish fine amounts are not discretionary: article 80 and the table in Annex IV fix them. Multa Cero carries the Annex II infringements with their points and amounts, plus the full speeding table. If you are charged more than the law sets, the app says so with the difference in euros and the article, and adds that ground to your appeal. FOUR DEADLINES, NOT ONE Early payment, allegations, reconsideration and judicial review. Each door with its date, what it costs to open and what it closes behind it. Early payment is twenty calendar days, not working days, and if the last one falls on a non-working day it rolls to the next working day. Deadlines are counted with your Spanish region's public holidays, not just the national ones, because a regional holiday moves the date. HOW IT WORKS 1. Photograph the notice, import the PDF or type it in. The text is recognised on your device, filling in plate, amount, authority, severity, article, file number, place and dates. 2. The app runs through 19 grounds and tells you which ones fit and how strong each is: time bar, procedural expiry, speed-camera calibration and signage, margin of error, parking bylaws, defective service of notice, low-emission zones, an amount above the legal one, and more. 3. You pick the grounds and the document comes out as a PDF with your details, ready to sign. 4. It explains where to file it depending on who fined you, with a link to the right portal: DGT, Servei Català de Trànsit, Trafikoa or your town hall. WHAT IT DOES NOT DO It does not promise you will win. The indicator is the strength of the grounds you chose, not a probability of success: there is no public data to compute one, and an invented number would be misleading. The fine, the photos and your details stay on your device; your name and ID number live in the iOS keychain and are left out even of backups.
