Don't Go Quack!

Don't Go Quack! blocks the apps that eat your day. Opening one doesn't get you a feed. It gets you a duck, asking whether you're sure. You already know how this goes. You open one app "for a second," and the next time you look up, forty minutes are gone and you feel worse than when you started. HOW IT WORKS Pick the apps that eat your day. After that, tapping one doesn't open it. You get a set number of quacks each day, and you decide how many. Spending one buys you a few minutes inside a blocked app. When the time runs out it locks itself again, whether or not you're still in there. Spend all your quacks and you're down to a five-minute emergency override, which costs you your streak. The point isn't to make it impossible. It's to make it deliberate. A tap you have to think about is a tap you often don't make. STREAKS Get through a day without an override and your streak grows. Override, and it's gone. The number sits right there on the duck screen while you're deciding, so you can see exactly what you're about to spend. It turns out that's surprisingly motivating at 11pm. Blocking runs entirely through Apple's Screen Time framework, which means we never see which apps you picked or what you do in them. There's a tip jar if you want to feed the ducks.
