Hive Watch Pattern

Hive Watch Pattern is an inspection and monitoring app for hobbyist beekeepers managing one to twenty hives — designed to be used in the field, wearing gloves, with bees flying around. The problem it solves is not complicated. A beekeeper who inspects their hives every seven to ten days observes roughly twenty inspection's worth of information per hive per year. Without a structured record, none of it compounds. A colony that swarms, collapses from varroa, or slowly starves over winter usually showed warning signs across two or three preceding inspections. Without the records, those signs are invisible. Each inspection takes three to five minutes. A guided five-screen form covers the things that actually matter: queen status, brood pattern quality, population trend, honey and pollen stores, varroa mite count, temperament, and any disease or pest signs. Every field uses large tap targets and selection grids rather than text input — the form is designed for gloves, outdoor light, and a short attention window. After the inspection, a next inspection date is set and a reminder is scheduled. A health score aggregates the inspection data into one of four states: Thriving, Healthy, Monitor, or Urgent, shown as a coloured hexagonal badge on each hive card. Varroa management has dedicated support. The mite count per hundred bees is calculated from two number fields and compared immediately to the European treatment threshold of three mites per hundred. A graph shows the mite count trend across all recorded samples. The treatment log tracks product, application date, and removal date — with a notification when strips are due for removal. Seasonal guidance identifies the critical post-harvest treatment window in August and September, the most important annual varroa intervention and the one most commonly missed. The swarm alert system fires an urgent notification five days after any inspection where queen cells were recorded, because five days is roughly the decision window before the situation changes.
