Most apps track what you did. Decisions Diary remembers why you decided to. Start with one messy paragraph, spoken out loud or typed, instead of filling out a structured decision form. When useful, Decisions Diary asks a few focused follow-up questions, then turns your words into a draft you can review: the thing you're doing, what set it off, the force pulling the other way, the assumptions you're betting on, and what would prove you right or wrong. Then it reads the decision back to you before you start. That last part is the point. Not advice, not alternatives, not a better plan — an editor asking whether what you just wrote hangs together. If your assumption contradicts your action, you hear it while it still costs nothing to change. THEN YOU MAKE IT Press and hold until it seals. Two seconds, with your thumb on the screen — and until you do, nothing has been recorded. You can go back and edit, or throw the draft away. What you cannot do is create a decision by accident. "I have decided to" is a promise you are making to yourself, and every other app takes that promise the way a form takes a field. Sealing doesn't lock you in. It records that on this day, you meant it — so a review months from now knows exactly what it is arguing with. WHAT A DECISION LOOKS LIKE HERE A statement, in your own words. A trigger — the moment it applies. A counterforce — the honest reason you might not. Assumptions you can mark as broken the day they break. Outcomes that could actually be checked. And, if the decision needs them, a few repeating actions. Actions are optional. A decision to leave a job in March is a real decision with nothing to do daily, and it belongs here. This is not a habit tracker with a diary bolted on. THE COACH THAT CITES YOUR RECORD You get a reminder when a review is due, or ask any time. Reviews don't cheerlead. They read what you actually did — the check-ins you made, the ones you skipped, the assumption you marked broken three weeks ago — and say what the record shows. When a decision stops being the right one, you revisit it. The old version doesn't vanish; it becomes part of the story, linked to what replaced it. Changing your mind is recorded, not erased. ONE NUDGE A DAY, AT MOST A reminder always names the decision it belongs to. "Run 5km" is a chore. "Run 5km — because you decided to be able to keep up with your kid" is a reason. Nothing here counts streaks, and nothing shames you for a gap. YOUR DECISIONS STAY ON YOUR IPHONE No account. No sign-up. No sync. No advertising and no trackers. The one exception is the AI, and it's stated plainly: when a decision is drafted, read back, or reviewed, the text of that decision is sent to Anthropic to be processed. It happens only when you take one of those actions, never in the background.
