Buying a used car privately? RegoSnap reads the listing for you and tells you what to check before you hand over any money. Screenshot the listing — Marketplace, Gumtree, carsales, anywhere — and RegoSnap reads the photo, the details and the seller's own words. You get one verdict: red, amber or green, with every point showing where it came from. WHAT IT CHECKS • Scam warning signs in the seller's own words: deposit to hold the car, seller "overseas", shipping agents, payment by gift card. • Your PPSR certificate, read in plain English: money owing, recorded stolen, written off — and what each one means for you. • Whether the certificate matches the ad: VIN, make, model, year, colour and number plate. • Numbers that don't add up, like 2,020,500 km on a 2017 car. • The car's safety rating from Australia's Used Car Safety Ratings, based on real crash data. • Questions to ask the seller, written for the exact car you're looking at, ready to send. HOW THE PPSR STEP WORKS RegoSnap is not part of the PPSR and can't search for you. It helps you ask the seller for the 17-character VIN, copies it for you, and opens the official PPSR website where you pay the $2 government fee. Save the certificate, add it in the app, and RegoSnap reads it and explains what it says. WHAT IT COSTS Your first car check is free. After that it's A$4.99 for one car, or A$9.99 for a 30-day pass covering as many cars as you like. The pass is a one-off payment and does not renew. The $2 PPSR search fee is paid to the government on their website, not to us. HONEST LIMITS RegoSnap is a pre-screen, not a mechanical inspection. It reads what you give it, so check the details it shows you against the listing. If a certificate is missing pages or contradicts itself, the app says "unclear" rather than "all clear". Safety ratings cover cars built up to about 2019. Always see the car in person and get a mechanic to inspect it before you buy.
