Hearts, rebuilt around the phone. The game is exactly the one you know. Everything around it is new. A BOARD YOU CAN READ The trick sits in the middle as a cross, one card from each seat, at a size you can actually see. Your hand runs across the bottom in two rows, and the cards you cannot play right now are simply dimmed. Turn the phone and the hand hangs off the bottom edge while the trick flattens out across the width. THE COMPASS The four scores live at the top, where the players sit: north across from you, west and east beside. What each player has taken this hand shows under their score as it happens, so you always know where the queen went. Tap the compass at any time for the full score sheet. At the end of a hand it comes to the centre and the points fly into the totals. OPPONENTS WORTH READING Three opponents, and a dial for how well they play. CASUAL seats beginners with one steadier hand. STRONG is three players who know the game. PRO is two who search ahead through the tricks to come, and one who does not — find the weak seat. Every player also has a temperament you are not told: someone plays scared, someone dumps on everyone, someone is out for the moon, someone has it in for the leader. The scorecard names them when the game is over. Nobody peeks: each opponent sees its own hand and what has been played, nothing else. YOUR HOUSE RULES Passing rotates left, right, across and none, or always left, or never. No points on the first trick, or open season. The Jack of Diamonds for minus ten, if that is how you learned it. Land exactly on fifty or a hundred and fifty comes off. Shoot the moon and everybody else takes twenty-six; take every trick as well and your score goes back to zero. DAILY DEAL Everybody gets the same four hands each day, one of each pass, against STRONG opponents under the standard rules. Your score is the points you took over the four, and your best goes on the leaderboard. Play it as often as you like, and keep the streak going. FREE TO PLAY EVERY DAY The Daily Deal is free, always.
