Stand your phone on the desk and Japanese sentences appear, one at a time, quietly — and are read aloud. This is not a vocabulary quiz, and it is not a course that expects you to check in every day. It is closer to a digital photo frame that speaks Japanese. You glance at it while cooking, commuting, or between tasks, and you keep whatever you happen to notice. No pressure, no streak to protect. THREE LINES, ONE GLANCE Every sentence shows: • The Japanese sentence • Kana reading, generated automatically (can be turned off) • The translation, in the language you choose IT RUNS BY ITSELF • Auto-advance every 5, 10, 15, 30 or 60 seconds • Shuffled playback that never repeats the same sentence twice in a row • Screen stays on while playing, so it works as a desk display • Swipe left or right to move at your own pace • Tap once for the controls; they fade away again on their own JAPANESE SPEECH Uses the Japanese text-to-speech built into iOS. Adjust the speaking speed and the delay before speech, or switch between the voices installed on your device. Playback can also be controlled from the Lock Screen and your headphones. Prefer silence? Turn speech off. FILTER BY LEVEL 12,701 sentences, tagged JLPT N5 / N4 / N3, so you can stay at one level. Tap the heart to keep a sentence in Favourites. Everything stays on the device — no account, no sign-in. EASY ON THE EYES • Light, dark, or follow the system theme • Separate text-size controls for Japanese and for the translation • Portrait and landscape • Use your own photos as the background TRANSLATION LANGUAGES Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, English, Korean, Spanish, Portuguese, French, German and Russian. When a sentence has no translation in your language, English is shown instead, so the line is never blank. FULLY OFFLINE Sentences, kana and translations are all bundled at install time. The app downloads nothing while running and sends none of your activity anywhere. It works on a plane, underground, or up a mountain. WHERE THE SENTENCES COME FROM Human translations from the Tatoeba Project (CC BY 2.0 FR), plus original sentences written for this app (CC0). The in-app Sources page lists every licence and contributor. All translations are written by people, not machine-translated. If you are learning Japanese but are tired of being told that today's task is still incomplete, this one may suit you better.
