RiverReady Crossings

RiverReady tells you how high the river is at the road crossings that flood, so you can decide before you set off rather than at the water's edge. River heights come from United States Geological Survey gauges, which publish about every fifteen minutes. The level at which a particular crossing goes under comes from National Weather Service flood impact statements for the nearest gauge. WHAT IT DOES Search any crossing we track and see the river level now, what is forecast, whether more rain is coming, and four years of history for that gauge. Enter a route and RiverReady checks every tracked crossing along the way before you leave. Save the roads you drive and turn on notifications to hear when one goes over. See everything on a map, with roads coloured by status and river gauges marked separately. WHAT IT DOES NOT DO RiverReady only knows how high the river is. It cannot see ice, fallen trees, damage, roadworks or official closures. It is not an emergency service. It does not cover every crossing. Where the Weather Service has not published a flood level, the crossing is shown as unrated rather than left out, because a road we know nothing about should not look the same as a road that is clear. The gauge is often not at the crossing itself. It may be some miles upstream or down. That makes the reading a good indication of what the river is doing, not a measurement of the water on that road.
