NSW Firearms Safety Test 2026

You get a first firearms licence in New South Wales by passing the Firearms Safety Awareness Test. Firearms Test NSW prepares you for it: the study material, every question with the correct answer, the handbook, the tests and spoken practice, in one app. The illustrations are drawn in full colour, from safe storage and firearm parts to ammunition and first aid. Answers follow the current law wherever it has moved past the handbook. Who the app is for For anyone sitting the Firearms Safety Awareness Test. And for anyone who just wants to learn something new about safe handling, firearms and shooting. Quick test Random questions from across the topics, for the five minutes you have in a car park. Timed mock test Twenty questions in twenty minutes, sixteen right to pass, the same shape as the real test. For the night before. Handbook and guides All the material for the six topics, and the licence path step by step: the course and the test, the 28 day cooling off period, genuine reason, categories, the permit to acquire, and what you have to keep doing once you hold one. Reading without being tested, in seven chapters. Every chapter names the section or clause it rests on. Practice one topic You pick one of the six topics and drill it until it sticks. Practice your mistakes The app remembers what you did not know and repeats it for you. You study what you are weak at. Question of the day One question for every day. Short regular revision, so it stays in your head. Spoken practice Each run draws prompts with model answers across the topics, from unloading before you cross a fence to what you do on the range. You say the answer out loud, then compare it with the model one. Statistics You see how you stand in each topic and where the work still needs to go. On every question The correct answer, an explanation in plain English, and the section or clause it came from, so you can check it at the source. No trick wording. Topics A: the basic safety rules B: licences, categories and genuine reason C: safe storage and transport D: firearms and ammunition E: safety in the field and on the range F: legal duties, offences and first aid Firearms Test NSW Carries practice questions written from the official NSW Firearms Safety Awareness Course material the test is drawn from: the Handbook on Firearms Safety Awareness, which is the examined text, plus the Firearms Act 1996 and the Firearms Regulation 2017 at legislation.nsw.gov.au. The handbook is old and the law has moved since on licence duration, fees and the ownership limits that came in at the end of 2025. Where the two disagree the app follows the current law and says so on the question.
