Florula — A Garden Almanac

A florula is the botanists' word for the flora of one small place. This is where you keep the plants of your own small place. There's no account. Your data stays on your phone. A single payment unlocks the app forever. THE MAP Point the app where you live and it draws the ground under you: the buildings, the roads, the parcel lines, and the contours of the land come from public map data. That drawing is a starting canvas. You confirm which building is your house, then trace the parts that only you know: the beds, the paths, the fence line, the tree you plant around. THE PLANTS Each plant sits on the map as a pin, colored by how it's doing, and marked with a symbol for what it is — tree, shrub, herbaceous, grass, vine, ground cover. Open a plant to see its type, growth stage, health, and every observation you've logged. Tap its latin name and your browser opens the plant database for your region. THE JOURNAL Observations are dated notes with photos. Over a few seasons they become the timeline for each plant. The journal reads across all of them at once: what bloomed this week last year, what you noticed in April. THE BLOOM CALENDAR A year at a glance, one row per plant, a mark for every month it flowered, budded, or set seed. After a couple of years it tells you what is about to happen. WHAT LEAVES YOUR PHONE Nothing about your garden, ever. The app makes a handful of requests when you ask it to — an address to find your place and a small box of coordinates to draw the base map. There is no server of ours, no analytics, and no account to make with us. HOW IT WORKS The app is free to download and free to use for up to 15 plants — enough to try it out. One payment unlocks it for good: no subscription, no renewal, nothing to cancel. It is your garden. MOVING, OR STARTING OVER Export makes one zip file: the entire almanac as plain JSON plus your photos, openable with no app at all. Import brings everything back in on a new phone. Plants that arrive by import never count against the free tier. Florula is built by Schema Software, an independent software company in North Carolina.
