Tana Traffic

In Antananarivo, at rush hour, the lights are not what moves the traffic. A police officer does, standing in the middle of the junction, with a whistle and two hands. In Tana Traffic, that officer is you. WHAT YOU DO Tap a direction to open it, tap it again to close. One rule, and everything else follows from it: which queue to let through, which one to hold, and for how long. Hold one side too long and the other starts honking. Close too early and you break the flow. Let a jam settle in and the run is over. WHAT COMES AT YOU Taxi-be — the shared minibuses of the city — painted in their route colours, with the real line numbers. Beige town taxis, motorbikes threading the gaps, tarpaulined pick-ups, and a sarety, the hand-drawn cart that slows down the whole street. And now and then an ambulance: that one does not wait. MATY MOTERA! A car breaks down in the middle of the junction? A bar above it shows how long it will last. Tap it fast to push it off the lane: vola as a reward, doubled if you are quick. FOUR JUNCTIONS OF TANA Andravoahangy, the crossroads where you learn. Behoririka, the T that forces a choice. Anosy, the roundabout where you merge instead of crossing. And Ankorondrano, two junctions in a row: what you let through the first one arrives at the second. Four real layouts, four geometries, four ways to get caught out. WAVES, NOT A TIMER Traffic arrives in waves, each one announced with its own target: so many vehicles through, without a single queue turning red. Clear it and the next one comes harder. Between two waves the city breathes, and so do you. THREE WAYS TO PLAY CLASSIC, to last as long as you can. MORAMORA — "gently" — where the junction cannot take the run away from you: a jam ends nothing, and the game never gets harder. Free from the first second. SPRINT, ninety seconds, twice the traffic and everything moves faster. THE WORLD RANKING Pick a name, once, and your best score enters the world ranking — every player in the same list. The podium, the top fifty, and your own row always in view, even if you are #412. Best score or Total fiara, this week or all time. Without network you see the last list and its date; a score played offline is sent on its own when the network comes back. A COLLECTION TO FILL Twenty-two things to collect with vola — the coins you win by playing: seventeen outfits for your officer — among them the Tourist, the Hardware dealer and the Wholesaler, three silhouettes you meet every day in Tana — and five whistles that each sound different. What you do not own yet is shown as a silhouette with its price, so you always know what you are playing for. BUILT TO BE READABLE Nothing in this game is told by colour alone: every state has a shape, a symbol or a position as well. There is a high contrast option and a large text option, and the whole interface has been measured against them. AND ALSO Rain, night, and the light of the Highlands turning over the course of a run. Missions that change every day, and a contract of the week. The game speaks French, Malagasy and English. HONESTLY No ads. No in-app purchases. No account, no email, no password. The whole game plays offline, on your phone. The world ranking is optional: until you pick a name, nothing leaves your phone. After that, only that name, your scores and your phone type go to our servers, and you can delete it all from the settings.
