Mycelia is an app for people heading out together who want to avoid getting lost—whether mushroom picking, attending a festival, going on a campervan trip, taking a city walk with kids, camping, hiking in the mountains, or even flying. You create a group, invite others via a QR code, and from that moment on, everyone can see each other—both on a map and on a compass that displays the direction and distance to every person. There’s no need to read a map or text "Where are you?"—simply follow the arrow. But what if there’s no internet? That’s exactly when Mycelia proves its worth. On a flight, you might lack cellular service or Wi-Fi, while your group members could be sitting rows away. Since Bluetooth remains active even in airplane mode, you can use Mycelia to communicate locally and chat without an internet connection. What you get: A map with layers: topographic base, orthophotomap, trails, and forest compartments from the Forest Data Bank. Map tiles are cached on your phone, so the map works offline. A "people compass": shows the direction, distance, and time of the last known location for each group member. Group chat with sound notifications and an SOS button that instantly alerts other participants. Local Bluetooth connectivity—useful where internet service drops out or is unavailable. An at-a-glance view of each participant's status: network coverage, phone battery level, and LoRa card battery level. LoRa cards (Meshtastic): optional small GPS-enabled transmitters. When festival networks crash due to the crowds or there is zero coverage in the forest, these cards relay locations and short messages between one another. A child can go out with just the card, leaving their phone behind. The app programs the card automatically—you simply need to connect it. Privacy: location data is encrypted using a group key; the group expires after a set time, and the administrator can remove a participant. You log in using your keepDriving!eu account—via Apple or email—the same one you use for the keepDriving!eu app. You can also view the group in a web browser. Mycelia is no substitute for emergency services or common sense. It does, however, replace frantic shouting through the trees, texts like "I'm by the stage, but I don't know which one," and searching for your group all over the plane.
