Let us be blunt about the size of this thing. A photo can tell apart ten groups. Ten. Arowana, angelfish, goldfish, guppy, corydoras, discus, neon tetra, pleco, betta, medaka. That is a small corner of what sits in a shop's tanks. We did not pad the number, because a guide that adds misses in order to look like it hits is worse than a small one that is honest. The list of those ten is visible inside the app before you take a single photo. WHEN YOU PHOTOGRAPH SOMETHING OUTSIDE THE TEN It is not squeezed into whichever group looks closest. The app simply says it could not tell. At most three candidates, never one verdict, each with one of three words: very similar, similar, or possibly similar. When confidence falls short, no candidate is shown at all. It reads fine after the tank light goes off. ABOUT THE TRAINING PHOTOS The recognition was trained only on freely usable photographs (CC0, CC BY and public domain). No CC BY-SA material was used. The credit list sits inside the app. Most guide apps stay quiet about this, so we say it up front. WHAT THIS BOOK WILL NOT ANSWER Disease diagnosis, medication doses, whether your water is good, what a fish is worth. None of it. If a fish looks wrong, please ask your shop or a specialist rather than a result screen.
