You are the signal operator at a sunbaked desert junction in 1936, and the timetable does not wait. Trains roll in wearing coloured liveries, and your only job is to tap the brass switches ahead of them so each one reaches the platform whose awning matches — before two of them meet on the same stretch of rail. Seventy-two hand-built runs are laid out across six divisions, from the single junction of Copper Flats to the full board at Bitterroot Yard. Each division introduces one new idea and then makes you live with it: a crossing diamond where two lines meet, trestle gates that swing shut on a timer, holding sidings where you can park a service and release it when the road is clear, and a three-way turntable at the head of Vermilion Pass. Twelve authored track layouts are each played in both directions, so a division's twelve runs rotate through four different boards. Deliver correctly to build an on-time streak worth up to five times the score, and guard your three safety lamps — a collision costs one, and losing all three ends the run. The record keeps itself. Every run earns up to three stamps toward a total of 216, and those stamps open new divisions and sign out twenty-four locomotives for the roundhouse, from the yard goat you learn on to the engine awarded for clearing the whole timetable. Forty-eight enamel service pins track the long work, three standing orders keep refilling as you fill them, and eight career grades carry you from Yard Hand to Division Chief. A Dispatch Log holds every run you have ever worked, and a Traffic Report breaks down your accuracy, the divisions that took the most out of you, and your recent form. When you want the timetable to simply never end, Rush Hour gives you one lamp and an escalating board. Everything is on your device and stays there. No accounts, no sign-in, no ads, no in-app purchases, no network connection of any kind. The whole game is drawn in the style of a screen-printed travel poster — cream paper, ochre sun, terracotta mesas and brass hardware — with haptics and animation you can switch off whenever you like.
