Humuhumu Fish Guide

The fish is manini. Convict tang is what it says in the book. Humuhumu leads with the name people here actually use, and puts the Hawaiian name underneath when it's a different word. Sometimes that name is Hawaiian, sometimes it's menpachi or onaga or nabeta. Either way it's what you'd say out loud. There are 100 fish in here, the ones you actually run into: manini, 'oama, uhu, weke, kūmū, pāpio, ulua, 'ōmilu, moi, 'ō'io, 'ama'ama, āholehole, akule, 'ōpelu, ahi, aku, ono, mahimahi, uku, 'ōpakapaka, onaga, menpachi, nabeta, kahala, kala, kole, roi, ta'ape, honu, manō, and the humuhumunukunukuāpua'a it's named after. Each one has a page written for somebody holding the fish: where you'd see it, how it's caught, whether people eat it and how, what it gets called as it grows, and what it tends to get mixed up with. Size limits and closed seasons are in there too, with the date they were checked. SEARCH Type manini, convict tang or Acanthurus triostegus and you'll get manini. Type menpachi or 'ū'ū and you'll get menpachi. Hawaiian, Japanese, English or scientific, it all ends up at the same fish, and you never have to get the 'okina right. LEARN Study runs twenty questions a round, and if you miss one it'll tell you what you were looking at. The wrong answers come from the same family as the right one, since telling manini from ahi doesn't teach you much, and telling manini from mai'i'i is the part that's actually hard. If you want to see where you're at, there's a test of 40 fish pulled at random from the 100. It times you, and that's the score that shows up on the leaderboard. You can add a name if you want to be on the leaderboard, or an email if you'd like your progress back on a new phone. Both are optional, and you can delete either one whenever.
