About

Emoji fly up the screen. You type their names to slash them before they land. That is the whole game, and it reads in about four seconds. The keyboard is the controller — there is nothing to tap, nothing to swipe, nothing to aim. THE GAME LEARNS HOW FAST YOU TYPE Most games hand you an easy, medium and hard button and hope one of them fits. Emoji Ninja measures your real typing speed while you play, and moves the spawn interval, the fall time and the length of the words with it. A slow typist gets a rhythm game. A fast typist gets something frantic. Both are playing the game that was built for them, and neither had to choose. A HUNDRED LEVELS, AND A REAL SUMMIT The ladder runs to level 100, where Grandmaster asks for 60 words a minute with the whole emoji set in play. Getting there is a genuine climb — the difficulty curve was measured by running ten modelled typists through every level, not felt out by hand. WHAT IS IN IT • Over 1,800 emoji, drawn from the full Unicode set • 100 levels, from a gentle opening to a summit that will take practice • 25 Game Center achievements and leaderboards • Bombs, freezes and hammers, and the discipline to know when to spend them • Blades and slash effects to change how a cut looks IT IS A SKILL TEST, SO IT REFUSES HELP Autocorrect, predictive text, spell-check and dictation are all switched off. Swiped words are refused outright and the game tells you why — a word arriving all at once would be scored as though you typed it instantly, and the leaderboard would stop meaning anything. FAIR BY DESIGN Every level, every emoji and every achievement is in the free game. The shop sells how the game looks, plus two helpers that stop working at level 80 so the last stretch is the same for everyone. There is one optional rewarded video at the end of a level, limited to three a day. No banners. No interstitials. No advert ever plays unless you ask for it. Made by one person in Texas.Read more

The shop is open. Pick up a new blade (Falchion, Cutlass, Claymore), give your slashes a new look (Embers, Frostburst, Deep Water), or stock up on Hammers and Freezes for the hard levels. Everything the game plays is still free.
