Description
Most trackers hand you a calorie target the minute you finish signing up. Your body has told them
nothing. A formula filled it in.
Squatch leaves it blank.
The Progress screen states the condition in its own words: 3 logged days and 2 weigh-ins, 5 days
apart. Until those exist, the burn figure on the home screen reads as a dash. When the evidence
arrives, so does the number.
THE FOOD DATABASE IS ON YOUR PHONE
8,171 curated USDA foods ship inside the app. Search runs against them with no network call, so
typing ribeye on a plane returns twelve real cuts with calories and protein per 100 g.
Ask most trackers for an apple and you can get an apple turnover at five times the calories. Squatch
is built against a test set of everyday foods with known values, and that test fails the build when
the top result is the wrong food rather than merely a plausible number.
THE DAY AS A CLIMB
Your ceiling is a dashed line across the top of a mountain. What you have eaten is how far up the
climber has walked. The whole day reads in the second it takes to unlock your phone.
WHAT IS IN IT
The day has a ceiling and the screen shows what is left of it right now.
Protein is measured against a floor you have to clear, not a suggestion.
The week is a ledger. 6 days inked, 1 still open.
You drag the fullness tide with your thumb, because how full you are is not a number you type.
Carbohydrates levy squats and the app keeps the tab. Today's 100 g of carbohydrate cost 38 of them.
Your weigh-ins are drawn as a trend through the water weight, so 16 days of noise still reads as one
line.
Apple Health works in both directions if you want it, and stays off if you do not.
CSV brings your history over from MyFitnessPal or Cronometer, and shows you a preview before it
writes anything.
WHAT LEAVES YOUR PHONE
One thing, and only if you use it. Scanning a barcode sends that number to Open Food Facts.
Searching by name never leaves the phone, because the database is already on it.
There is no account and no login. No analytics are transmitted. No crash reports are transmitted.
Not one third-party SDK is bundled in the app. What you log lives in a database on the device and
syncs through your own private iCloud, where nobody else can read it.
Camp holds a row called Erase everything. It clears the lot, on the device and in the mirror the app
keeps beside it.
A NOTE ON GOALS
The goal you can set stops at a healthy weight for your height, worked from your own height rather
than a fixed number. At 5 foot 10 that floor is 129 lb. If your current weight is already under it,
the app holds your weight steady instead of drawing a route further down.
Squatch is free. There is nothing to buy.
