HONKI by MADZINE

HONKI is built for modular synthesizer users. It does not replace hardware. It takes over the digital side — sequencing, sample playback, AUv3 hosting, mixing, CV and MIDI output, visuals — in one app. The weight of the luggage goes to the analog instruments. HONKI is an eight-track groove box for iPad: four melodic and four drum tracks, each with its own sound source, sequencer segments, mixer channel and modulation routing, across six landscape pages — MAIN, VOICE, MIXER, UTILITY, PERFORM and VISUAL. SOUND SOURCES, ONE OF FOUR PER TRACK SYNTH: internal oscillator engine with wavetable selection, OCT, TUNE, SWEEP, BEND, FOLD, FEEDBACK, TONE and MODULATION. Drum tracks run dedicated drum voices. SAMPLE: granular sample player, multiple samples per track. GRAIN SIZE, DENSITY, SPRAY, JITTER, grain shape, PITCH, GAIN, loop, one-shot and reverse. PHYSICAL: physically modelled resonator driven by sequencer pitch and gate, with STRUCTURE, BRIGHTNESS, POSITION, DAMPING, model and polyphony. External audio can excite it directly. AU: any AUv3 instrument on the iPad, hosted per track with its editor. SEQUENCER Each pattern holds 8 segments per track, up to 1024 steps each, played as a timeline with a START and END range or locked to one segment. Ten patterns per bank. Notes carry pitch, velocity, gate and probability. Per-step LOCK drives a shift-register regeneration: locked steps stay, unlocked steps are rewritten each pass. 16 built-in scales plus a user scale editor. MIXER Eight tracks: EQ with a draggable curve, compressor, sidechain, external input gain, a bidirectional filter, LOCK, DECAY, DENSITY, three pre-fader sends (DELAY, REVERB, TEXTURE), an INT and EXT crossfade, fader, mute and solo. Send/return delay, reverb and granular, and a MASTER FX chain of AUv3 effects on the output bus. MODULATION AND CONTROL UTILITY page: an eight-stage envelope sequencer with two groups and a crossfade, per-stage curve and sync; six LFOs with a free or synced speed fader and an XY pad for waveform morph and shape; a 7x4 matrix from the six LFOs and the envelope sequencer to four outputs with oscilloscopes. Any continuous parameter accepts the envelope sequencer and the six LFOs at once, each with its own amount, set from a long press on the control. PERFORM page: build your own control surface. Place knobs, buttons and faders, and map each one to up to 8 parameters with individual ranges, from a grid grouped by mixer, voice, segment, FX, global and visual. MOTION records parameter movement per segment; global effect automation is stored per pattern. VISUAL The VISUAL page renders a live image chain on the iPad and on a connected external display. Source: built-in or external camera, or a photo or video file. Four modules run as a chain: CHROMASCOPE, PARTICLE, MESH and FEEDBACK. Drag to reorder, with MIX and BRIGHTNESS per module. MESH carries 100 built-in shapes and loads OBJ files. PARTICLE and MESH react to the mixer track levels. INPUT AND OUTPUT Audio input from a connected interface feeds the tracks, with delay compensation. CV output through a DC-coupled multichannel interface: per-track pitch and envelope channels, envelope delay, an optional short full-scale pulse, and four assignable matrix outputs. External clock input is supported. MIDI output over CoreMIDI, one channel per track, with a virtual source. MIDI input maps onto any control by learn, with latch or momentary, jump or pickup, curve and range per assignment. RECORDING Recording writes per-track stem WAVs, external input WAVs and a master WAV of the processed output, reachable from the Files app. SETUP can record the app screen and the VISUAL output alongside the audio. Both are off by default and land in the same session folder. The sampler resamples the master bus or any external input, up to 120 seconds, to a track. The bank and the 32 program slots per track export as one .honki file. Landscape only. No in-app purchase, no subscription.
