Pallanguzhi (பல்லாங்குழி) is Tamil Nadu's traditional pit-and-seed game — played for generations on a 14-pit wooden board with cowrie shells or seeds, and historically a favorite among women. THE RELAY Sow one seed into each pit as you move around the board. If your very last seed lands in a pit that already has seeds, pick that whole pit back up and keep sowing — a single turn can relay across the board several times before it ends. THE CAPTURE Your turn ends the moment your last seed lands in an empty pit. Land it in an empty pit on your own side, and if the pit directly opposite still has seeds, you sweep both pits into your store.
