Brewing skill is invisible. Chess has ratings. Running has times. Coffee has opinions. CupRank is a ranked ladder for brewing. You and your friends brew the same coffee at the same table, taste each other's cups blind, and whoever brewed best climbs the rank. No certified judges required — the table decides. HOW A GAME WORKS Everyone brews the same coffee, ground on-site from one shared bag. A marshal decants and shuffles the cups so nobody can tell which is theirs. You score blind, in silence, and you never score your own cup. Then the reveal: recipes unlock, rating changes land live, and everyone finally sees who brewed what. The whole thing takes an evening. It is not a competition so much as a game night that happens to keep score. CASUAL Any rules you like. Open Cup, Bullseye, Marathon. Never touches your rating — this is where new formats get tested and where first-timers should start. Casual keeps a private Table Record instead, so a good night still counts for something without following you around. COMPETITIVE Official formats only, standardised so results are comparable between tables. OPEN CUP — sensory. Score five attributes on sliders, then rank the cups with no ties allowed. The ranking decides the winner; the sliders explain why. Ties break by head-to-head, then by sweetness, then by a rebrew. Results feed a public ranking and a 12-week season with a soft reset — you never lose everything you built. THE BREW ROOM Your private practice space. Nobody sees it. It never touches anyone's rating. Log a cup in about a minute — your recipe carries over, so you only edit what changed. Take the Rebrew Challenge: recall your last recipe before you look, lock today's numbers before you brew, then find out how your memory, your prediction and your replication actually did. Over time, My Lessons collects what you have genuinely learned, and My Progress shows the patterns in how you brew. THREE SCORESHEETS Choose one per coffee and it locks to that coffee. The CupRank Sheet (six attributes, 1–10, every point individually anchored), Classic cupping, or CVA. Scores never convert between sheets. Anchors reward quality of expression, never intensity — a delicate cup can score top marks. BUILT TO BE FAIR Blind judging is not optional. Nobody scores their own cup. Silence during scoring. Identical vessels agreed at check-in. Disputes need a marshal co-sign. Accounts are phone-verified, handles are pseudonymous by default, and spectators can watch the brew and the reveal but never the live scoring. No streaks. No badges. No push notifications. Your practice data is yours and exportable, and it never feeds a ranking. WHAT A GAME NEEDS 3 or more brewers, one table, one bag of coffee, and someone willing to marshal.
