Vogelkop Orchid Key is a free, offline-capable field guide and interactive identification tool for the orchids of the Bird's Head Peninsula (Vogelkop), West Papua, Indonesia, one of Earth's richest yet least-explored orchid regions. Built as an open scientific resource in collaboration with partner institutions, it combines a professional multi-access identification key, illustrated species fact sheets, an AI photo identifier, offline maps, and a personal field journal in a single app. KEY FEATURES INTERACTIVE IDENTIFICATION KEY Narrow 652 species down to a match by choosing from 50+ morphological features (flower, pseudobulb, leaf, habit, and more), including real leaf measurements. "Find Best" suggests the most useful next character, a built-in illustrated glossary explains every term in plain language, and the "Differences" tool compares candidate species side by side. Save and reload sessions, and suggest corrections to help improve the key. Works fully offline and updates over the air, with no reinstall needed. AI PHOTO IDENTIFICATION Snap or upload up to 3 photos for an instant genus prediction from our AI model, plus the most visually similar species from our reference collection. Log any find straight to your field journal. BROWSE 652 SPECIES Searchable, genus-grouped fact sheets with photo galleries, synonyms, type information, morphological descriptions, and distribution data. Bookmark favourites, compare two species side by side, and jump to the map or iNaturalist for any species. MAPS AND SPECIMEN RECORDS Explore 3,200+ georeferenced herbarium collection records across the Bird's Head Peninsula. Includes an offline vector basemap with topographic contour lines and downloadable offline map packs for the whole region. MY FIELD COLLECTION Record your own finds with photos, GPS locality, notes, and automatic conservation tagging. View them as a journal, map, and statistics dashboard. Record GPS tracks of your route and export as GPX, KML, GeoJSON, or Shapefile; export records as CSV, JSON, HTML, or PDF for herbarium labels, research, or publication. Back up and restore your data. Your records stay on your device unless you choose to share them. iNATURALIST INTEGRATION Link your iNaturalist account to post finds as observations (one at a time or in bulk) and browse the project community. CONSERVATION AT A GLANCE IUCN Red List and CITES badges on every species. Locations of CITES Appendix I species (e.g. Paphiopedilum) are automatically obscured to protect against poaching. All 652 species descriptions (around 228,000 words), the identification key, the illustrated glossary and every screen are fully translated.
