Safety Signal turns official UK police data into one clear score for any postcode or wherever you're standing, and shows you what's actually behind it. HOW IT HELPS • Buying or renting a home: look up a street before you book a viewing. Check several postcodes to compare their scores, see whether crime is rising or falling over the past year, check for flood warnings nearby, and see what the local police team says its priorities are. • Moving for university or a new job: find out whether the area around your new flat has a burglary problem or mostly anti-social behaviour, before you sign. • Visiting somewhere new: arriving in an unfamiliar city late at night? Check the area around your hotel or station in seconds. • Out and about: with Live Tracking, your score updates as you move, and you get an alert if you stop somewhere with a low score. • Staying informed about your own area: see what's changed month to month and who to contact locally. WHERE THE DATA COMES FROM Crime data comes from data.police.uk, the official open data published by UK police forces, covering street-level crime within about a mile of the location. Police publish monthly, usually two to three months behind, so Safety Signal shows the latest month available. Population figures are from the 2021 Census. Air quality comes from Open-Meteo, flood warnings from the Environment Agency, and street lighting from OpenStreetMap. Safety Signal covers the UK only. Scores are a guide to help you make informed decisions. They are not endorsed by the police or government, and can't tell you whether a specific street is safe at a specific moment.
